Nowadays, FTP has become one of the most popular ways of transferring files and folders over the Internet. That's because it's simple to use, it's secure, fast and reliable. Despite its popularity and the large number of FTP clients, the FTP protocol has its downsides. One of them is the fact that one requires a FTP client in order to have access to files, as the built-in web browser client lacks many features. Another downside is the fact that setting up a FTP server requires setting a lot of options. An easier way of sharing files would be using a regular web interface. A software that can help in this matter is CC File Transfer. The program is an alternative to the FTP service, offering easy file sharing in a web browser interface that resembles FTP but it's much easier to use.

The program supports almost any Windows version, including XP and Windows 7. It has a straightforward installation process that completes in the shortest time possible. It takes up about 4 MB of hard disk space, which is less than the space occupied by most FTP clients.

The program's interface makes it easy to share folders and files. All the user needs to do is create a username account and point to the desired folder for sharing. If no user accounts are created, the share will be available for anyone, without a password. The program can use UPnP to communicate, in case one uses a router to connect to the Internet. Besides that, the port can be set from the program's options window, making sure that the sharing server will be available from any location.

The interface of CC File Transfer is based on tabs, each one of them addressing a certain area. As such, there is a sharing tab, that displays all the shared folders, a friends tab, that contains all the user accounts and last but not least, a log section, that displays in real time information regarding the file server, like the IP of a user accessing files and the file or folder accessed. The program allows creating an account on the ccfile.net website, allowing users to enter an easy to remember short path instead of the actual IP address.

CC File Transfer can be hidden from the desktop, being able to run from the system tray as an icon, for not interfering with the user's work and for not cluttering the desktop.

Pros

It's a great alternative to the FTP service, allowing anyone to access one's shared files using a web browser. Besides that, certain user accounts can be created, for accessing specific files only with a password. Furthermore, the interface features a log section that displays real time information regarding the IP address of a user trying to connect to the file server.

Cons

The program doesn't offer an option for setting certain files and folders to read-only. CC File Transfer is a great alternative to the FTP service, allowing anyone to access shared files and folders just by using a web browser.
